A CROSSROADS IS LITERALLY AN INTERSECTION WHERE TWO OR MORE ROADS MEET, AND IN ANCIENT TIMES, THEY VERY IMPORTANT TO MAGICAL RITES. THE CROSSROADS WERE A PERFECT PLACE TO CONDUCT A RITUAL OR CAST A SPELL. THEY WERE BELIEVED TO BE THE ENTRANCE TO THE "OTHERWORLD," A PLACE THAT IS NEITHER "HERE NOR THERE," AND AS SUCH, ALSO THE BEST PLACE TO PRACTICE WITCHCRAFT OR CONTACT SUPERNATURAL SPIRITS.
THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH IS DEDICATED TO HER AND IS THE BEST TIME TO ASK FOR FAVORS, INSPIRATION, AND INSTRUCTION. SHRINES WERE BUILT AT THE "CROSSROADS," AND PEOPLE CAME ON THIS EVE TO LEAVE OFFERINGS IN AN ATTEMPT TO APPEASE HER. "HECATE' SUPPERS," AS THEY WERE CALLED, WERE THE OFFERINGS LAID AT THE" CROSSROADS" ONCE A MONTH ON THE 30TH DAY TO WORSHIP HER. OFFERINGS OF HONEY, BREAD. CHEESE, GARLIC, ONIONS, FISH, AND EGGS WERE LEFT AT THE "CROSSROADS". ONCE THE FOOD WAS OFFERED TO THE GODDESS, THE PERSON MUST WALK AWAY AND NOT LOOK BACK. LATER, THE POOR WOULD COME AND FEAST ON THIS FOOD. IN ANCIENT TIMES, ANIMAL SACRIFICE, MAINLY PUPPIES, WERE ALSO OFFERED ON THIS NIGHT.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO LEAVE AN OFFERING AT THE CROSSROAD, IDEALLY YOU SHOULD LEAVE WITHOUT LOOKING BACK. AID FELLOW TRAVELERS AND STRANGERS, ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE DOGS.
