The Roman Festival Of Aestatis Image
ON THIS DATE, THE ROMANS CELEBRATED THE FESTIVAL OF "AESTAS"," THE ANCIENT CORN GODDESS OF THE SUMMER TO WHOM THIS TIME WAS SACRED. HER NAME IS ALSO LATIN FOR "SUMMER" OR "SUMMER HEAT. " THIS WAS A CELEBRATION OF THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER AND WAS HELD ANNUALLY ON THIS DATE. SHE IS USUALLY PORTRAYED NAKED AND ADORNED WITH GARLANDS OF GRAIN OR WHEAT SHEAVES IN HER HAIR.

"AESTAS" IS ONE OF THE ROMANS MANY PERSONIFICATIONS OF TIME AND SEASONS. THE MOST OBVIOUS CONNECTION WITH THE SEASON IS CALLED "LACUS AESTATIS" (SUMMER LAKE), NAMED FOR THE ROMAN "GODDESS" OF THE SUMMER," AESTAS. "

TRADITIONALLY, IF RAIN FALLS TODAY IT WILL BE A WET SUMMER.
