The Festival Of Luna March 31st Image
LIKE OTHER LUNAR "GODDESSES", "THE ROMAN GODDESS, LUNA", IS ASSOCIATED WITH MOON MAGIC, TRANSFORMATIONS, THE PSYCHIC, AND THE FEMININE. SHE SYMBOLIZES THE HEAVENLY EMBODIMENT OF THE MOON. TOGETHER WITH "DIANA" AND "HEKATE", SHE FORMED A TRIAD WITH "LUNA" AS THE GODDESS IN HEAVEN, "DIANA" AS THE GODDESS ON EARTH, AND "HEKATE "AS THE GODDESS IN THE "UNDERWORLD". SHE IS USUALLY DEPICTED AS A PALE WOMAN RIDING IN A SILVER CHARIOT, AND WAS THUS ALSO A PATRONESS OF CHARIOTEERS.

A FESTIVAL IN HER HONOR WAS HELD ON MARCH 31ST. IN HER TEMPLE ON "AVENTINE HILL" IN ROME, THE COVER WAS REMOVED FROM THE LABYRINTH PASSAGE TO THE UNDERWORLD, TO ALLOW THE SPIRITS OF THE DEAD TO ROAM FREE. THE TEMPLE WAS DESTROYED BY THE "GREAT FIRE OF ROME" IN THE YEAR 64 C.E.
